Moving Devices between Groups

In Part 1 of our 'Manage groups' series, you learned about device groups. In Part 2, you learned about creating groups.

This guide is about moving devices between groups.

When devices are moved in to a group, the devices will download the latest deployment to that group when they have a stable connection to the internet. The new deployments will override their previous Mason OS configuration.

Do not experiment moving between groups with a production device. Always use a devkit or a test device

Prerequisites

Steps

  1. Log in to Controller

    Controller login page

  2. Visit the devices page in Controller - https://platform.bymason.com/controller/devices

  5. Click on Move devices to submit the form and move your device(s)

If you see an error message and are unable to submit the form, your device(s) cannot be moved to the group you selected. The reason for this should be shown on the page.

  6. If the move is successful and your target group already has a deployment, the device(s) moving to that group will download the latest deployment after the move is complete. You should see these changes reflected on the device detail page for each device you moved.
